The selling in the past week has not been kind to our trades. The pullback in the SPDR Select Sector Technology ETF (XLK) erased our gain in the XLK June 30 call option. We again rate the trade a buy if you don’t already own it. The selling in Sunpower (SPWR) has been most frustrating, with the shares having traded lower for 14 of the last 15 days. Now deeply oversold, we’ll hold the shares here.    Relative to stocks, the precious metals have offered mixed results for investors. Gold has held up better, while the economically sensitive silver has fared slightly worse. As we pointed out last week, any indication of QE III will again light a fire under the metals. Both the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) and SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) are considered buys. So too are the Market Vectors Gold Miners (GDX) ETF and NovaGold Resources (NG), although of the two NovaGold offers the highest return potential. Read More

After a very small pullback last week stocks are once again knocking at recovery highs on optimism the U.S. economy is on track for solid expansion. Whether the recovery truly will have legs, however, is still a question as shoppers taking advantage of mild winter weather in the last few months may have distorted the picture. Read More
