Igor / Robert. . . . . .with the oil market still bouncing around and everyone having an opinion, I was wondering if you have any thoughts on a ceiling in short term for Bonanza Creek; (BCEI) Down a little today, but has had a nice run from where you suggested an entry into it!
Robert Rapier
BCEI is well above our limit price, and if you are trading short term this may be a good time to take some profits. It’s up more than 50% in less than 2 months, and I know a lot of analysts who are characterizing the current uptick in oil prices as a dead cat bounce. If you are looking longer term, then it’s probably still a good holding, but if it was me personally I would probably take profits and roll it into something else that hasn’t had such a fast run-up.
I have many positions in the mid size drillers, Many of them down from various purchase dates. But since mid December some up 40% plus. As oil ranges between low 40’s and low 50’s does this look like a time to be adding on the low days as, my personal opinion and outdated futures contracts in mid 70’s, say we should see in a year mid 70 pricing. If so companies like WLL, CXO, EOG and numerous others should see significant move is the move from 43 to 51 is any indicator. Reading multiple pieces by you both do you feel this pricing is possible?
Robert Rapier
Mid-$70’s is aggressive, but probably achievable 2nd half of the year. I did predict that WTI would average above $60 this year, so I do expect further gains. But it’s going to be choppy. Many analysts think this is a dead cat bounce. Certainly the market is still oversupplied, but traders always look to the future and the situation in the 2nd half of the year starts to tighten up.
This month’s web chat is supposed to be launching now, but apparently the person who normally schedules it had to be out of the office and was scheduled by someone unfamiliar with the way it should be set up. Igor and I are both talking right now, trying to fix it. We will have it up as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.
It seems this QTR after earnings many of the MLP companies are going through significant offerings of debt or units and I can appreciate taking advantage of lower interest rates. MWE, PAA, LNG and others does this seem to make long term sense for what seem to be well capitalized companies. I guess in light of George Soros requesting PVA to sell them self there will be some acquisition options also. What are your views on this and how do we take advantage?

Do you think the recent rally in oil is the proverbial “dead cat bounce” on our way to new lows or do you think we’ve already formed a bottom?

Regardless of their deal, why shouldn’t I buy both CHK and SWN?

I am not able to access the 2/10 /15 chat archive. Is it/will it be available?
Fred
Robert Rapier
Hi Fred,
I can see it. Make sure you are looking below the graphic that pops up. When it pops up for me I have to scroll down before I see anything.
Fred Lamoureaux
Hi Roger,
For some reason I can read all the old chats except the 2/10/15. I get the graphic pop up but nothing scrolls.
Fred
Robert Rapier
Are you clicking on the 3/10 chat or the 2/10? The 3/10 shows the graphic as you say and won’t scroll. The 2/10 graphic scrolls for me.
Fred Lamoureaux
Sorry. It’s the 3/10 I’m trying to get that won’t scroll.
Fred
