Friday Conference Call: Join the Club

Many of the positions I take for Profit Catalyst Alert are informed by company conference calls, and one is taking place Friday I think you’ll be interested in–and which will show some of the triggers I look for so you can get a front seat into how I do what I do.

The call is for Post Holdings’ (NYSE: POST) first quarter. Profit Catalyst Alert portfolio holds the POST put option with a February expiration and an $85 strike price.

Here’s what to listen for on the call:

  1. What was “organic” growth was for the quarter and what management’s expectation is for the year. If this is not quantified, you’ll want to know how the acquired MOM business performed. MOM makes generic and branded bagged cereal and has suffered sales declines recently.
  2. Are retailers cutting back on the number of cereal brands they offer or even cutting back on the amount of inventory they hold?
  3. What is the trend in product profits (gross margin will be the language used on the call) for the basic Post brands and has there been a change in margins for the acquired MOM business?
